You have to try different media brands and different formats until you find
one that works. That is the trick, until then, you waste a lot of money
trying different ones out.
I have read from a number of sources that Maxell DVDs work well in regular
dvd players. Your dvd burner manufacturer may have a list of media brands
they recommend over others, I know Plextor does for my 708A drive.

Will my TEAC W58E DVD burner write to DVD-R? I thought it
only wrote to +R discs?

Just looked at the teac site - you are right ....your
burner will only write to +r. No answer there - mine
does both, but I know the PS2 and XBOX both work with -r
discs.
