Video cut out after 1st second every time but audio stays on

Media Player 9 always loses video after about 1 second
but audio stays on during playback. this problem has
persisted for years but have worked around it by play
resident video on windos movie maker or by having
streaming video open in browser window on left side of
browser. once i played a clip fully in the browser i
could replay the clip in MWP 9 and the video would play
fine. now with service pak 2 it won't open in browser so
need to solve problem. Please help!
