Audio problems after SP2

I at first thought this was a problem only with Media Player 9 but soon
realized that other players were effected the same way (Real Player for
one).

Play any .avi, .mpg, .wmv file with normal sound - OK
Mute the sound - OK
While playing, use the slider control to advance the frames - Audio comes on
full blast (even though Mute button is shown as active).
The Audio will come on/off with each hit of the slider bar.
