It does look at the phone numbers and addresses. I've used it to look
for prefixes when calls are incoming. Try a soft reset and try it
again.

The start/find function will find _any_ string in any pim data.

Think what you are referencing is the "filter" function that filters on
first or last name as you type into the box at the top right of the
contacts screen.

Ed,

My mistake. I guess what I'm looking for is something that will also
search the Notes field in my Contact base. I have my friend's kid's names
and other info in the Notes, but "find" won't find them.

Beverly,

Thanks for the reply. What I'm trying to do is search the Notes field
in my contacts. I'm not sure what you mean by the filter function.

I just tried putting something in Notes, Using Pocket Informant it found it.
There are 2 icons in the search screen, I don't know what the difference is
yet, but the second of these found it, the first didn't.
You can get a trial of the program, and they have pdf manuals on the site
you can download. Not free but a good program. Why not try it?

Alan,

Thanks. I've been using Pocket Informant since version 3 something. It
IS a great program. Never had used the search bar though. You're right, it
does just what I want. Who knew? :-) Thanks again.

I just tried the find function for a string that existed only in one
contact's note field and "find" found it.

>> not sure what you mean <<

"Find" is

start/find/contacts/<string>

"Filter" is the one line text box at the top right of the contacts
screen but is limited to only first, last name and company

I'm still finding my way around the program too, but it seems to have so
many options it's not surprising some get missed. Now all you have to do is
find the other useful things it does that you've missed ;o)
Why not have a scan through the pdf manuals? I'm trying to read through them
to get a picture of the capabilities just now.
