Hi, I recently installed Service Pack 1 on my XP system
and have noticed that my video card listing in the Device
Manager displays a yellow exclamation mark next to it
every time I reboot. I have updated the driver where now
it states that there are no new driver updates available.
I delete and reinstall the driver after reboot and it
works to the point where I can smoothly scroll my memo
boxes without the choppy effect. But when I reboot again
the yellow exclamation point returns along with the
choppiness. Before I installed Service Pack 1 this
problem never happened.

There was also a time after installing Service Pack 1
where just after POST a different screen than usual was
displayed and started what appeared to be a Windows XP
install process. I instantly cut the power, rebooted and
the screen never appeared again, but I'm left with the
handicap of not being able to use video hardware
acceleration. What's my next step?

I'm sorry I didn't say this, but I'm using Windows XP
Professional. Also, inside the Device Manager when I
click the GeForce4 device and disable it, then re-enable
it the screen briefly blacks out and the driver works.
What can I do to permanently rectify this situation?

Did you try reinstalling the correct drivers for your card from
www.nvidia.com?

I downloaded the driver from www.nvidia.com as a setup EXE
file and ran it installing the software to an independent
folder. It also installed the driver which worked until
reboot. I'm pretty sure I disabled all my anti-viral
software. I then removed the old driver in the Device
Manager and added new hardware by means of manual
installation. I told Windows to find the new driver
software in the independent folder and it copied several
files to some of the Windows system folders. The screen
briefly blacked out and I adjusted the resolution and
color settings in the display properties. It worked as it
has been, but on reboot it reverted back to displaying the
yellow exclamation.

What is my next step?
