I have a smc7004 abr router with a smc2655w wireless access point. My laptop has the pc card smc2632w.
My problem is that since it was installed(not by me), the laptop (winme) does not recognixe the card and when that happens, I have to reboot because the mouse hangs up for a few seconds then works for a few seconds and then hangs up again.
The other problem is that even if the laptop recognizws the wireless pc card, I don't get linked. The only way is to unplug the network cable from the wireless access point and then plug it back in. Then I get a good link and all works well until I turn it off and then the fun starts all over. I have tried to get the updates (drivers and firmware), but I must be doing something wrong because I don't see any change in the version numbers and the problem persists.
And yes I have asked the installer to fix it with no results.

I have some recommendations but no definate solution.

Ask for a replacement Card just to be sure
Upgrade the WinME... Yuck
uninstall all the drivers/software for the card, reboot and start again.
Look for patches for WinME, particularly any to do with sleep/standby/power modes.
Investigate the reason the version number doesn't change when you upgrade the device.

These are in no particular order.
