Can't activate DMA for NEC 2500A on WinXP

I've noticed that whenever I'm making CD/DVDs, my system would be
crawlling. Checking the IDE Controllers from device manager of WinXP, I
found it was in PIO mode but Transfer mode is on "DMA if available." I
checked the BIOS and it was on max DMA mode but it would still run in
PIO mode no matter which setting I tried.

So How can I turn on the DMA mode for this DVD-RW drive?

What motherboard do you have? Where is DVD-RW attached to?
