Should we? It is a useful tool in places like Games, but do we need it here in "Other"?
If we keep it, are we going to use it responsibly?

Scuba steve, whats up?
Do me one favor...give me a small hint on what is and isn't allowed. I honestly dont want to a whole trial and error...i assume keeping it PG-13 or lower is alright?
PG-13 AND good taste is a good start
Steve are you serious?
*crowd goes wild as the Devil's Advocate enter's the ring*
I know you didn't like my big bold and beautiful picture but odds are that if we put it to a vote most people would call it work safe. I doubt anyone would consider that so bad as to be edited out. I don't remember what image that was that you removed but it was no worse than this one. http://www.fat-people.net/images/obese_woman.jpg, and although I don't find that woman very appealing I think it goes against freedom of speech to start censoring something so benign. I was simply posting that picture for shock value. I can't imagine it hurting or offending anyone. I've seen fatter women walking down the street wearing a leotard and I don't recall anyone trying to cover her with a sheet or dragging their children away.
I have to say something here since if we start editing something like this and calling into question even having pictures in this section, then I start to wonder what will be next. We have some outrageous conversations in here and the last thing we need is a hard censoring hand. If we go down that road then people will want to censor our religious and political debates since those can get highly heated and somebody always ends up getting salty. Maybe Wingy will be on the chopping block since his stories are far worse than that fat picture. I don't mean to tread in the slipery slope realm but I'd rather speak up now since it was my picture that got edited out. A picture might be worth a thousand words but they're not that bad. We police ourselves very well here. Many of us have screwed up before by posting a link to something that wasn't work safe without saying something and people do pipe up quick and say something. Poor Phial has screwed up and clicked on bad links at work more times than I can count but I've never heard anyone suggest getting rid of URL tags in this section.
The solution is simple. We're not posting porn or decapitated bodies. When things are questionable we can post them as URL rather than IMG.
My two cents at least.
Fair enuf, dh. I will leave it to TGP, since this is really not my domain :? I will stick to programming
But you guys as a whole need to think that this feature was pulled down from the old forums (I believe), and could easily be pulled down again.
I am on your side... really am, that is why I care about it. If I wrongly find something questionable, some "real" mods may also. So I guess we can call this "Beta Testing" of the concept.
[edit] one thing to consider dh is that the new forumz will attract a lot of new people, it will be much more "open" compared to the old one.. how that affects moderation and site cleanness standards, remains to be seen.
I don't remember it being a feature and if it was pulled down it would most likely have been a bandwidth issue. They had it on the German forum but the traffic there appeared to be less.
There once was some kind of error where we had pictures for a day or so but we didn't do anything bad other than use an insane amount of bandwidth.
Ok, I don't quite know the history. I have seen some pictures in the old posts, and I figured it was disabled due to abuse. Don't really know.
Is this bad DH?
Its my desktop.....I am just getting a feel of what is good and whats bad.
Should i have scaled this?
That's art as far as I'm concerened.
What monitor do you have?
Do you have 2 2005fpws side by side?
This site has an amazing collection of art pictures.
http://www.photo.net/gallery/photocritique/filter
There's some really nice work in here as far as I'm concerned. If you filter it by SUM you'll get mostly nude female works. They're beautiful. Editing something like that would be a crime although in some of those pictures you might want to give the guys at work a shot at avoiding them.
i have two crappy CRT's...i was looking into gettting a 2405 like you but i just stuck with these terrible ones.
I took the stock pictures i had and made this....the white swimsuit ones were already on a white background so i used them to keep my photoshop time down and the other two big ones took about 2 hours total to cut out, resie and place.
I've seen my monitor go in the $700 range. Still a grip of money but I justified it as a present to myself for moving to L.A. and considering that I spend a lot of time on the PC it only made sense.
The 2005fpw is awesome too though and I've seen it in the $300 range.
you mad 3 posts within a min....you are a posting machine!!
I like that site you gave me, i do like nude art. But i like when its the curve of a hip, the flow of a leg, or the swoop of a neckline. It has some stuff i might PS for a new desktop....now if i could only stop looking at my girlfriend Adriana Lima.
I like the SUM filter since it gives a lot of everything. If you're good with PS you should pull some stuff from there. I was hoping I could get some good wallpapers but the images are too small and I'm too lazy to edit something.
3 posts in 1 min? I'm getting slow. I used to be so much better.
I was looking into a couple things...
2405 or two 2005fpw
But i decided that the money should be saved.
Maybe two 2405's are in my future as a huge gift to myself.
Adriana Lima?
On the site I gave you?

2 of these would be absolute insanity. I suppose it would be great for content creation but forget games.
I love doing PS work...but i am not that good. i can do a little here and there but i need someone to guide me. Too lazy to read a book for something i rarely do.
I would rather do 3d modeling, but i certainly dont have the talent for that. I can build basic things like apples, unpealed oranges, bananas, and get the model about right. but i have no idea how to bumpmap properly or create skins for the fruit. The color and bumpmaps make a simple image POP
Well about 75-80% of the time i have a movie, tv show, or something running on one screen and i am surfing the web and chatting on trillian on the other. So i would want to keep that the same. And having a 2405 for movies and then a crappy CRT for web/IM would be rediculous.
I started to think about 2 2405's so i walked away from the whole purchase all together...lol
btw, that picture...perfect.
Now i need a reason to PS it...
Maybe i could skin trillian....
Let's just see how responsible the other community is, before disabling it. If things are not work safe, you won't be seeing a lot of me anymore.
Yes, pictures should be disabled. Not only in the others, but in the whole forum. I don't see why we need pictures. People still have to upload and link to pictures, and often we have to click small sized pics for full view.
THGC was fine without pics, and will be fine without pics. In fact, you should consider disabling avatars, too.
BTW, there should be a max. line limit for signatures.
May i ask why?
I mean to each his own but i am curious if you mean to remove everything to make it work safe, or to make it easier for dialup, or what are you looking for.
Yeah it worked without pictures and everything, and cars worked without power steering, automatic trans, and other features.....
I am not trying to change your thoughts....just curious as to the origin
The pics are nice and all from home, but will almost definitely mean I'll be here a lot less (yeah, yeah, hold the applause), because I won't know when and where pics will pop up, and even if they're not straight up nudity or anything, lots of them would get me tagged by the net nazis at work based on what sites they're from. That's one thing I really liked about the old forum, is you could choose whether or not to click on every link. [/$.02]
You got a point there.
Agrees. In a big forum I use any image is displayed as a clickable link. It's much more work safe.
It's very hard to browse threads with slow connection, if there's 4-5 big pictures (especially since many people don't compress pictures properly). With links, I can see only the picture I want to see. There's no chance of NSFW pics by any means, and IMO text-only forum looks cleaner and better.
You do not have a point.

The problem is that almost nobody uses dialup anymore.
I asked if it was possible to have it as a user option to enable/disable showing images though. That might be good for both you and Auburn.
Yeah, I saw your thread. That's a good idea, it will make everyone happy.
Knowing many of the people down here (and for once I am not talking about RobD, Auburn, or Wingy), I know this could get us in trouble... I am hoping that anything that is posted is good, and if something bad is posted, that people will warn us beforehand... But I say for now, leave it...
HOW ABOUT A USER TOGGLE TO SWITCH OFF IMAGES FOR THOSE WHO ARE SO INCLINED....
That way, you have the best of both...
While you are rediscovering the web, why don't you discover the "Load images"(Tools/Options/Web Features) function that is set as default, but can be turned off? It will render the forum well enough to be usable and leave a place holder to be clicked if you choose.
I'm thinking that the other should be closed off to members only and open for them only with a little "May be unsuitable" tag. That would allow freedom for all of the nasty pervs to express themsleves like we've always done, but keep the rest of the forum under strict fascist control.
So I have said it and thus it shall be.
DH EDIT: DOWN TO WINGDINGIUM YOU MUST GO!

I want to see the forums without missing layout pictures, and I don't want to turn on-off pics often.
DH has the best idea. There should be a "display pics in post" option in the profile, and people who turned it off will see only the links of the posted pictures.
Your avatar is taking up too much bandwidth 8O
What does that mean, huh dh?

It's only 1.8 KB (1839 bytes). Even with 300bps modem, it wouldn't take more than 7 seconds to download
In this thread only steve_sa and dhlucke has smaller avatar than me.

I thought you were using a morse system, and had to decode all the bits yourself.
LOL
Anyway, so far the naysayers were asked to show their points. Now it's time for picture supporter group to prove why we must have pictures.
I think it'll be up to the moderators to apply the final word, and to be strict. Censorship works only if you use a rational perception. What can be applied to the most people will usually work. PG-13 as some said is an example. I don't know many users under that age anyways. Hopefully that will deter anyone from trying to put something disgusting or just not suitable for the younger audience.
Yay I'm back to Forum Butterfly!
Psssst
Did noone tell ya that the regular bunny sigs are not done anymore?
Nice Matrix look in your avatar btw
Don't encourage him. The next you know you'll be bent over and squeeling like a pig. Ask Auburn. Auburn is traumatized and having to go through counseling.
Dude, I swear I never even thought about Neo while having this pic taken!
But thanks anyways!
To be honest i love the idea of pictures....but its not we MUST have them.
Does anyone here HAVE to post here? do we HAVE to have color? smileys? avatars? do we have to have anything?
NOPE!
I think it has some advantages for some people, being able to diagram things sometimes is easier then explaining them. If a picture is worth a 1000 words then i dont have to read so much crap. GPU forums could post pictures of benchmarks and not just list numbers, the other can show pictures from an awesome vacation, wrecked car, or maybe a stolen phone[/taunting wuzy]
Yeah it poses problems for people with dialup and for people at work....what if an icon appears on the thread so you know before clicking on it that pictures are posted? that way dialup people know ahead of time and people at work can risk it if they want to....
I dont personally need to go 212MPH and 0-60 in 3.3seconds but that doesn't mean ferarri shouldn't make the Enzo. (plus i dont have a million dollars and the other qualifications to own one.)
Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean that you can live in a world with it...
I wouldn't mind a separate other section, which has picture posting enabled while this other would then have the option disabled.
