Hi,

I shall be extremely glad if someone can let me know what the following
error message means when I try to run 3DMark05 Pro on one PC here:

"IDirect3DDevice9::CreatePixelShader failed: Invalid Call
(D3DERR_INVALIDCALL)"

PC: P4 1.7GHz || Mobo: Intel D850GBAL Garibaldi || 768 MB PC800 RDRAM ||
GeF3 Ti200 64MB AGP || WinXPPro || DirectX9c || Latest nVidia drivers
installed.

3DMark03 Pro, AquaMark, 3DBench and other benchmarks as well as DXDiag run
perfectly and indicate no errors.

CHKDSK, Norton NSW checks, SFC, RegCleaner - even ad/spy-ware tracking -
revealed no errors.

I am not interested in the gaming performance itself as much as I am in
checking out the graphics capabilities of this system prior to a sale.

Thanks very kindly a lot for any insights.

Shiva

That's simple: The graphics card is totaly inapropriate:

a) It's not capable of DX9 Hardware support.
Futuremark says:
"3DMark05 is the first benchmark to require a DirectX9.0 compliant hardware
with support for Pixel Shaders 2.0 or higher!"
b) The graphics card must have 128 MB RAM, to run the test.

BTW:
Your posting doesn't make much much sense.
Even 3DMARK03Pro will only provide a dia show on this computer.
Some parts (Mother Nature: DX9, Pixel Shader Test 2.0) won't run AT ALL!
So why do you want to run an EVEN HARDER test which, as i understand it,
COMPLETELY relies on DX9 hardware ??

Thats easy. It doesn't have a graphics card with hardware support for
DirectX 9. Hence any app which requires hardware support for DirectX9 will
fail. An example of a app which requires hardware support for DX9 would be
3d Mark 05.

Hi,

The responses are very much appreciated.

I had completely overlooked the DX9 hardware requirement aspect, as well as
the PS 2.0 one. 3DMark03 did all the tests except Mother Nature and another
one. It was 3DMark01SE, I think, that actually finished them all.

Why was I running the test with 3DMark05? Because I had the software! I
generally use some utility to test out graphics, and other subsystems, on
PCs I still put together occasionally!

I get turned on by those benchmark utilities - 3DMark, AquaMark, WinBench,
Performance Test, PCMark, SiSoft, Aida........! I agree there is a point and
a story here but I really cannot rationalize! :-)

Shades of "...nothing else to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon.....", I guess.
And, as I pen these words at an hour-and-one-half into the day Sunday
morning, way out before dawn, I am planning to temporarily replace that
video card with a suitable one and run the test again, even if it does not
rain this afternoon!

Good Morning, all.

Thanks a pentallion.

Shiva
