Yes. If you plan to just upgrade, make sure it's either 32 bit going to 32 bit or 64 bit going to 64 bit. You can go from 32 bit to 64 bit but you'll have to do a clean install, not an upgrade.

Solution
TheViper's comment is certainly true, but I would advise against doing an upgrade anyway, unless you have software on the machine that you absolutely cannot lose. By this I mean you do not have the installer to get the program set up again once 7 is installed.

Clean installs are always safer.
