.mpeg file plays in one drive, then codec not found in ano..

i used roxio to make a dvd+r data disc with 3 .mpeg files on it.
the files will play in the external usb sony dvd-r drive, but not play on
the built in dvd drive. windows media player give the error "one or more
codecs not found"
then put it back in the sony drive and it plays. any help or suggestions
would be appreciated
