I recently installed a new Plextor PX-716A DVD drive.
I have not yet installed any of the Plextor software.
Nero Infotool reports its maximum CD Read Speed is 40X,
contrary to Plextor description and datasheet stetements
of 48X. (CD Write speed is reported as the expected 48X.)
CD Read Speed is reported as 40X with with versions
1.07 and 1.08 firmeare.

It this normal?

--------
I emailed Plextor support about this and got a prepackaged
script reply which was nearly unrelated to my question.
It also included a statement in the reply which seems
contrary to anything I have experienced or read before:

"Whenever you install a new drive into a Windows system,
you must delete all CDROM entries from Device Manager
and reboot to have Windows detect it properly. This is
a limitation of Windows... you can't manually install
a CDR drive in Windows using the Add New Hardware wizard"

Any comments on Plextor's statement?

I installed the PX-716A with a Yamaha CRW-F1E CD drive
already in the system. Installation went smoothly. Device
Manager said it was working properly. As an experiment,
I did uninstall both drives and reboot the computer.
After going through the "Found New Hardware" operation,
both drives showed up the same as before. Assigned drive
letters were unchanged. Infotool results were unchanged.
