Does anyone know why embedded AVI's in a web page will not play correctly
when loaded from a Web server. It appears to be a problem with XP SP2 loaded.
If I uninstall SP2 the Embedded AVI in my Web page plays just fine when the
page is loaded. Can anyone explain this issue and how to resolve it so I can
keep SP2 installed?

Thanks,
Robert

I have XP SP2, I get this error message from MP10 when I try your weather
page:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is on another
computer, verify that you are connected to the network. If you typed a path,
verify that it is correct. If the problem persists, the server might not be
available.

I can't see the shots below the video either.

I also have a network computer that has Win98SE and an earlier version of
MP(9) I think. It will play the video, but I'm still unable to see the shots
below the video. They just show up as black, although it says 'loading' when
i double click them.

Not much help I'm afraid, but maybe you can get something from it.
Good luck.

The video on that webpage uses intel Indeo 3.2 codec which is found on most
computers preinstalled except some very recent ones. These codecs are now
owned by Ligos who say on their website:

"With the 2002 update to Windows XP (known as Service Pack 1), Microsoft
suspended distribution of the Indeo codecs as a base part of its operating
system. This only affects users with new PCs that are shipping with Windows
XP Service Pack 1, or clean installs of Windows XP SP1 on an older system. A
number of game and multimedia titles require Indeo to be installed on the OS
in order to function."

And further down it says something that may explain your situation:

"Service Pack 2 - With the 2004 update to Windows XP (known as Service Pack
2), Microsoft has made changes to the OS and Windows Media Player 9 and 10
that prohibit the playback of Indeo content online. Users will find that
they will no longer be able to automatically play video files posted on the
web if they were encoded with the Indeo codec. Windows Media Player will
only play Indeo files if they are local (on your hard drive). "

Hope it helps.
