I'm sorry if there is some easy-to-find answer to this question, but I have
looked around and did not find anything.

I just bought a new video card but I suspect that it might not be the one I
was supposed to get, so I want to check its specifications to compare. Is
there some way I can do this from Windows XP?

Jason,

Go to http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en and
download/run Everest Home Edition. It is the successor to AIDA32 and if you
click on the Display icon you can dig down and get all sort of info on your
video card.
