firewire card question

I'm a total newbie at dv, but i'm getting together all i need to start and
want to check on the following - my'old' machine (PIII 733mhz with 768mb
ram) has a Firewire/USB2.0 PCI card installed. Is this sufficient to
transfer from a mini-dv camera (with firewire out port/cable) to my
comoputer? Or, do i need a special 'capture card' or ?
I have Windows98SE and will be installing Vegas

"Capture cards" take an analog input, and digitize it, either by
software or hardware. But your content is already digitized (DV), and
all you need is transfering it to your PC -which is precisely what
your PCI card is meant for.

Hi,

I installed an el cheapo Firewire card from Taiwan. Windows XP recognized
it straight away and it's performing superbly. You don't need any other
hardware - your camera's already digitized the input. Now, if you want to
take input from analogue sources, that's another story.
