downloaded some films from internet and managed to get them onto a
dvd-rw disc. tried to play dvd on home video player which is a pacific
model which plays anything from normal dvds to cdg discs but comes up
no disc. is it as simple as getting a new dvd player which will play
dvd-rw discs or is there anything else i can do. sorry if this post is
in the wrong place.

You cannot just copy a movie on to a disc and expect it to play. This
produces a data disc. You still need to use a dvd authoring app to make it
work.
