THE OTHER is dead

Its true, there will never be another one again. It died with the old forum and this new place will never be even close to the same. The one thing that shouldnt have changed was the OTHER. One of the mosts important traits of the OTHER was the absence of mods. Freedom of anything and everything was what made you love it or hate it. Maybe it would be closer to the truth to say, thats what made us all love and hate it at the same time.

In the time I have been here, I have paid close attention to how people interact through the internet. One thing that seems to be true more times than not is that its easy at any one moment to forget that there is a real person engrained in each and every word. I think that most people tend to believe that we all use the internet as an escape from the real world, that we use our time on the net to be someone OTHER than our real selves. Maybe its the OTHER way around. Maybe we tend to let the REAL person out when we are online and maybe we tend to fake it most of the time when we are in the real world. Maybe the truth falls somewhere in between. Whatever the real truth is,..... [/nods head] It doesnt really matter anymore, the OTHER is dead.

Any mod that takes action here will not be looked on favourably. Trust us to do that.

but there have been some examples of some interesting mod choices, someone had a slight sig. situation....

And I clearly said that I disagreed with that person's threat. This isn't a dictatorship. If you don't like any of my decisions you can talk to any of the other mods. Besides that we have it setup so that we can discuss issues easily.

People have got me mostly figured out. Unless some jackass spams the joint (delete the thread, not that anyone will care) or someone posts racist remarks (all hell will break loose) I'm pretty much not going to do anything. The only thing I could really see myself doing that hasn't been done before in a reasonable amount of time is locking a thread where people's feelings are genuinely getting hurt which we've seen very very rarely here.

Mozz I have a great deal of respect for you and your go but I am a trifle surprised by your post.

There's some changes and we have moderators etc. but I dont think we could have hoped for anybody better in JB and DH. They're good blokes and I haven't seen much in the way of modding done. I had to change my original avatar which was understandable and Rich's sig needed to be changed and there's probably a few other things censored etc. but the joint still has a snazzy vibe too it. I think any changes that have been requested are pretty benign and shouldn't get up anybody's nose at all. All the usual suspects are still around, including yourself, and thats a good thing. Hey, Wings is still here and thats a good sign.
