Hello, i have a couple of gps+pda related questions.
I plan to use microdrive on everyday basis so one cf slot is gone.
Is it possible with any of the gps packages to load a subset of whole
mapping software into ram/rom and then use cf slot for gps ?
Or is bluetooth/sdio a must ? Which one is cheaper by the way (bt/sd) ?
Any gps recommendations in <200$ range ?

Well, it's not the GPS mapping software that is going to be the issue in
most cases. Sure you can load that in RAM (or the user ROM if you have a
reasonable amount). The question is going to be the maps themselves. Those
are typically data files which the mapping program accesses. They can get
fairly large, or there are numerous files, if you want much area covered.
If you are thinking of a CF GPS, you could put the map files on an SD card,
since it appears you have such a slot. Personally I'd recommend looking at a
BT solution ASSUMING you have built in BT. If not, of course you need a BT
card and are back to the slot issue.

Were you planning to use the u-drive for both applications and data storage?
What were your plans for your SD slot?

Currently i'm evaluating Toshiba E755 and IPAQ 2215, first has a CF, SDIO
and 802.11b while the other has bluetooth but no wLAN.
?drive :] is going be used for all storage, and replaced by a GPS module
when needed (at least that's the plan) since i won't have too much time to
browse through my emails struggling for my existance in some heavy mountain
side or while driving. Or maybe i will ??

Well the 2210 has an SD slot so why not use a storage card in that for the
map data?

There's always the ? issue.

I think you missed Darrin's point. I have a Dell Axim (CF and SD, no
WLAN or bluetooth built-in). The maps for my GPS software run 15MB
EACH. If I had to choose between GPS OR flash memory chip, I'd be
screwed. I use a CF GPS and an SD memory chip for all of my data-
maps, MP3s, videos, data backups, pdfs, etc.

You could use your microdrive to hold a few maps, and then use an SD
GPS, or buy a "mouse" GPS (tethered to PDA by cable) like Deluo sells
for about $100. BT GPS are nice, I suppose, but $$ more than tethered
or CF, and if the PDA doesn't have BT, still require the use of a slot
for BT card.
