There was a note on the packaging, "Whild charging your device the first time, you
MUST press the power button to charge the abckup battery."
I'm 99.9% sure I did that, but the only thing it says in settings, for it, is 'Normal'.
I would presume I could charge/recharge it by turning the unit on when charging any
time in the furute. Anyone disagree? Anyone know what type battery the backup
battery is?

You can't charge/recharge the backup battery. You have to go buy a new one
when it's dead. Check the PPC manual for the type of backup battery. They do
last forever though.

They have a life of several years, but they should be replaced every year or
so to insure reliability, especially if they have been partially drained by
a low main battery.
You can get them from Radio Shack for a couple of bucks.
