Can someone recommend a converter that is free to
use? And not to difficult to use.
I have videos that I took that are AVI 14,576 KB that I want to convert to
WMV and reduce them so that I can email them to someone. I just received a
video that was a
WMV that was 3 minutes long. I want to learn how to
do that.

Thank you!!

Yes, you can load it with Movie Maker. There is also Windows Media Encoder
(available at the Windowsmedia site at Microsoft.) It assumes that you have
experience with various media types and formats though.

I agree with Ellis. I recommend Windows Media Encoder over Windows Movie
Maker. Everytime I import DVD file into Movie Maker, it recognizes it as just
audio, with no video at all, and encodes it like that. I have a DVD decoder,
so I know that's not the problem.

Well, I know how WME works and I'm pretty sure it won't do it. I haven't
experimented yet, seeing as I just bought a new hard drive (stupid master
boot record), but I can imagine that with so many options, there'd be a way
to get it to work.

Scarslasher...
2 points.
What has importing dvd files into MM got to do with converting an avi file
into a web ready wmv?
How can you recommend WME over MM when as you say "I'm pretty sure it won't
do it" "I haven't experimented yet" "I can imagine that with so many
options, there'd be a way to get it to work"

Windows media encoder will convert avi files to wmv and has more user choice
options than movie maker, but for ease of use I'd go the movie maker route.
