separating video and sound.

How do I separate the video and the sound. I want to
save only the sound from the video clip.

What programme are you using? This is a generic video newsgroup, there is a
moviemaker one if you have further questions to ask about MM.

If it's movie maker, then just drop the video clip into the add music track
on the timeline.
