Hi,
I created a movie in WMM2 (having captured video form
my Digital8 camera) (saving it as DV-AVI). I was able to
play the movie (8GB, 40 minuetes) in W Media PLayer and
another SW DVD player. However when I tried to render it
into MPEG 2 files I was told the file was unuseable. I
also tried to see what coding it had using GSpot and
again it said the file was unuseable. Finally I re saved
the movie in WMV format and everything worked.
Any ideas? I would like to be able to use WMM2 but also
to save it as DV-AVI. Maybe I shoudl copy to DV camera
and back again after authoring the movie?

/Niall

Which application did you use to try to render in MPEG2?

Please see a more complete answer to Rehan's question. I
tried DIKO and Cyberlink Gold and then GSpot and another
similar tool. Also I tried the Canopus DV 1 - DV2
converter in case that was an issue but it found an error
after 5GB of my 8GB+ file.
thanks.

These two statements are not implying the same thing. Are you trying to save
in DV AVI or MPEG2 ?

Movie Maker does not save in MPEG2. It can save in DV AVI, to do this look
closely at the second or thord screen in the Save Movie wizard titled "Movie
Settings...". It has a blue link saying Click for more options... YOu need
to click it and then more options will be displayed. from the drop down box
select DV AVI.

Once saved you need to use your DVD authoring software to make a DVD with
menus and chapters using this saved movie. Movie Maker does not make DVDs.

Hi,
I want to use WMM2 to create the movie (incorporating
titles and transitions), save it to DV-AVI, render it to
DVD ready video files (MPEG2 as far as I know) and then
burn it using any DVD burner like Nero (a lite version of
which came wityh my DVD burner). I initially used DIKO and
it gave me an immediate error (saying that the Audio could
not be found). I then tried GSpot (and another similar
tool) to see if they said something useful but they both
just said they could not make any sense of the file. GSpot
just said that the file was too short.
I also (later) tried to import the WMM2 created file (DV-
AVI) into Cyberlink DVD and to ask it to create the DVD
ready file. It reported that the file was a format it
could not use.
My statement about "wanting to use WMM2" referred to the
fact that I find it useful and would like to be able to
continue to use it (with the rendering being done by the
other tools).
thanks.

There exist two standards for DV AVI files. Type I and Type II. The DV AVI
file saved from Movie Maker needs to be converted to be workable in another
app which only recognizes the other type (dont rememeber which one is
which)...

Luckily a couple of freeware converters exist for this purpose:
http://www.ulead.com/download/dvconverter/download.htm
http://www.canopus.com/US/products/DV_file_converter/pm_dv_file_converter.asp

Hope it helps.

I would have a look at the file on the MM timleione at the point canopus are
saying there is an error, just in case you can spot something that isn't
right and then try re-saving the movie. Do a defrag and turn off all other
items not needed first.
