I'm going to buy a firewire cable/IEEE1394 cable. The Sony cable is
about $40. Sam's Club has 2 cables for about $10. Here are their
specs:
Stratitec's 6-pin to 4-pin device cables are perfect for use with
computers, digital camcorders, cameras, scanners, hard drives, HDTV
connectivity for IEEE-1394 equipped digital TVs and more.
6'
Two pack
Undermold Shielding, Isolation Shield with Dual Foil Shield, and Dual
Outer-braid Shield: construction virtually eliminiates EMI/RFI
interference and guarantees 100%-data accuracy
Exclusive Super-Flexible Polymer: overmold and cable provide easier
grip for routing and connecting cables
24K Gold-plated Contacts: reduce corrosion, ensure maximum
conductivity and optimum data transfer for error-free transmission
Impedance-Matched 30AWG: twisted-pair wiring ensures fast, error-free
data transfer for optimum FireWire® device performance
Is there any difference in the quality between Sam's cable and what
Sony sells? I think Monster cables are as expensive as Sony's.
I'm talking about a 4 pin to 6 pin cable to connect my Sony miniDV
camcorder to my computer.

The cable I bought at Best Buys for less than $20 has been working well for
me.
