This is so tragic it is relatively funny. The other night I was logged onto here bombed [...*yawns from the crew*... nothing knew there, right?], but bear with me.

I was using my old IBM laptop and I was listening to some old tunes and having a ball chatting on here etc. I'd taken my headphones out of the jack on the laptop to plug into the cd player and then I thought it might be cool to listen to some online free music.

I had the lights dimmed and was focking around trying to get the headphones jammed back in when all of a sudden the laptop popped and sizzled right in front of me. This stupid fock had tried to jam the jack into a usb port that was 1cm away from the green phones jack and the whole laptop blew. I was that drunk I had no idea WTF was going on and thought it had to be anything but my actions.

Honestly, I am less than focking hopless when it comes to pcs and thankfully the machine wasn't worth much but talk about incompetent. :D I had to  when it happened because there's no point getting stressed over it but I'm shocking with my own gear.

Explain HOW a headphone jack would even fit into a usb port? You take a hammer to it or what?

Reply to Wolfy

You're obviously well past it. Hop onto a nearby mattress and I'll be with you shortly.

...*procures a bottle of paraffin and some matches*...

Reply to WingDing

It was the smallish headphone jack size and I was keen to listen to the tunes so I tried to force the focking thing.

Stupid, very stupid!

I am having difficulty in believing you. We all know alcohol improves your coordination, makes you invulnerable and is fanfuckingtastic. Please re-evaluate what you think happened and this time don't blame the beer, that's just unacceptable.

Reply to Tom_Smart

Noooooooo!!!!!!! The loss of the laptop is punishment enough!!!!!

I'd equate a night with you to be something not dissimilar to the energy exerted by a 350lb sumo with a 110lb, finely boned, petite looking Japanese Geisha; and I'm not the Sumo, my friend, so I know what's coming - Punishment, Big Time! POCs dont apply to you Wings, the acidic puss you ejaculate at volcanic speed eats nuclear waste!

Reply to BomberBill

Right on. And that's just the foreplay....

Reply to WingDing

:D :D

An interesting point and funny that you mention it because I was off the beer that night and drinking Rum, [horrendous hangover on Sunday].

Dark Rum leaves me hammered and I was stuffing around, happy as Larry because I'd talked to this good looking tart at the boozer and I was chatting to her via messenger when the laptop went down.

You're right Tom, it wasn't the fault of that sweet nectar of the Gods we call grog, no, not at all! It was blasphemous of me to suggest so - shocking attitude, I know. :o

Those Uruguay chaps knoced us off [again].

There was a dubious call or two in there that didn't help us but there's no point lamenting over that aspect of the game.

I really wanted us to get there this time. The nation were right behind the team.

Reply to BomberBill

Drag Man!!! Too bad about the puter..... :(

I've burnt up a few things myself.... It usually my fault, but it still pisses me off none the less......

Last thing I burnt up was a wireless router.... Plugged in the wrong PSU to it & snap crackle pop!!!!!!! [shrug]

And that cost ya a laptop? You stupid f[u][/u]uck. You guys still have another shot at it in Sydney three days from now.

And as the aussies scraped all their money together and got a top dutch coach (who brought South Korea to the semi-finals, last WC), what can go wrong? You've got nothing to worry about, soccer wise that is. Was it your own laptop, or do you have to explain this at work? 8O

Mine. I rang IBM the next morning for a quote to fix it and I was half-surly given the pounding going on in my head and I'd only racked up a few hours of sleep. 'Nathan' the young, slick, fast talking IBM operator didn't even laugh when I told him that I got drunk and fried the thing. He said: "Oh, you'd be surprised at how often we get that here. Hmmpf, I've done it myself; its no big deal." People with IBMs must love a good time, I thought.

He then went on to quote exhorbitant costs to fly the machine to Sydney to be fixed so I terminated the phone call before I called him and his corporation a pack of over-priced thieves.

Did you buy an extended warranty with it when you bought it????? If so, they might replace it for you....

Reply to RCPilot

Nah, RC. Mate, she was about 3 years out of warranty.

It is a bummer about the hard drive though. Lots of documents and stuff lost. Spewing at that loss, actually.

Reply to BomberBill

Looks like you just pick yourself up & go on then.... No sense in looking back!!!

Reply to RCPilot

True, mate. Very true.

I lost my grandmother on Sunday afternoon. She was 89. Poor old thing, she'd kept her mental wellbeing but her body gave out on her. I saw her two weeks ago and she told me that if a person can reflect on their life and note that the scales of life are weighted towards the good side then that life has probably been worth living; she'd had such a life - honest and utilitarian in nature.

There's grieving but little melancholy at her loss given that she had led a full, happy and productive life.

Life goes on, as they say.

Reply to BomberBill

Well said. We can't hope for much more than that.

Reply to WingDing

I believe that's what we all strive for in this life!!!!!!

You have definitely lost it? Have you taken the hard drive out and tried it on another machine?

We can't? I was kind of hoping for a glorious afterlife for myself in Wingdingium. O well.... :(

Reply to BigMac

Oh, I got plans for you mister. Your anus doesn't know what's coming....

Reply to WingDing

Wolfman, mate like I mentioned, Pcs are not my forte. The best I could do was release the battery from the back of the thing.

You're right though, I'll get some dood in the know to have a look at it and see what, if anything, can be salvaged.

In truth, I'd like to buy a new system and get one of those snazzy 7800 GTX cards that everybody - including Toms - is raving about.

Reply to BomberBill

WTF would you use it for???? You don't game..... [shrug]

Reply to RCPilot

RC, are you kidding? I'd unload at least 2 hours of each day with games. I only just got my 6600GT 4 months ago and I got UT2004 Editor's Choice Edition a month ago and I dont know how many hours I've lost on that. Top game that it is.

I've got the luxury of not working for the next month and then I'll be back at Uni next Feb so there's time for gaming even though I'll need nearly a full-time job to pay my tuition so time will be precious for me next year.

I must say though, as fun as gaming is, its hardly productive; but I really enjoy it as a hobby. The older I get though, the less interested I am, particularly with games that are not highly complex or challenging. I really want Civ 4 but the $90 Aus price is ludicrous.

Reply to BomberBill

I didn't know you gamed like that... Shooters is my thing!!!! :P

Reply to RCPilot

I'm not a tv or news guy so instead of sitting in front of the box or reading sensationalistic newsprint journals I play games. Its tragic really, given that I was once obsessed with politics and thus the Politics Degree I've completed is now next to useless for me because I'm disillusioned with most political processes.

The Unreal Tournament series has been most enjoyable for me over the years. I found UT 2003 to be disappointing but UT2004 has been tons of fun. I could not tally how many hours I burned on the original UT.

Half-life was a classic and I just finished Far Cry which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm now onto Riddick: Escape from Butchers Bay and it seems pretty slick. I want Doom 3 next.

I really dig good strategy games and the Civ 3 burned many an hour of mine. I really loved it - for a while, at least. Time is the prob though, what with work and all. I'm a 'slow' gamer, as they say; I really like to get into a game to enjoy it, you know.

Reply to BomberBill

I never got into the UT type of games for some reason....

Save yur mony on D3.... I played it once, & that's it....

Get PainKiller Gold..... More bang for the buck than you can imagine.... You can probaly get PKG for cheap & it will take you to task for hours on end.... One of my favorites as well......

Reply to RCPilot

Call of Duty (the original) was excellent
HL2 is great but I never did finish it. I think I was getting some at the time.
Doom3 blows. Don't bother. What a lame game.
Painkiller is fun but gets old after about an hour. There's something great about shooting someone with a stake though.
Farcry was cool but I got bored. Is there MP in farcry?
BF2 is awesome. You need to find a good squad though which is kinda rough sometimes.

Reply to dhlucke

Alright. I'll have a look for it today. Cheers.

Reply to BomberBill

Finish HL2... It's worth it...

HL2 Best
FarCry next
FEAR next
PainKiller gold next
Doom 3

I din't have Quake 4 yet or SS2, but I'll revise my list after I play them....

Reply to RCPilot

Good advice. Will do.

Mate, I've read a few reviews on Q4 and they reckon its only mediocre at best. I'm not that keen to shell out top price for a game that might not cut it. I'm all for buying games to support developers etc. but it has to be pretty special for me to fork out top dollar.

Far Cry was a real blow out, and yes, I definitely need to get HL 2. Definitely.

Reply to BomberBill

I played FEAR for a while. That's pretty good so far.

If you haven't played Max Payne you should do that first. Excellent game.

Reply to dhlucke

Funny you mention that because I've got a copy but have never booted it up.

I'll give it a go after Riddick.

Honestly, I can see why kids [and grown men] do nothing but game. With things constantly improving its often hard to stop when you get into a groove. Age of Empires 2 was terrific, I thought. I'm not so sure about Age 3 after what you said, D.

Reply to BomberBill

AOEIII sucked. I gave it a bunch of chances but it was lame.

Rise of Nations is the best game in that league.

Reply to dhlucke

I found RON to be a touch disjointed. You had the opportunity to conquer the world; there wasn't much more to it and I just couldn't get into it. It certainly had some snazzy game concepts but the army movement was poor, for example: you would set an army up for a patrol and then you'd find units would stop patrolling after an enemy entered the area; or if a unit/army was set to guard something they would do it for 2 mins and then walk off to do soemthing else. Even after the patch the combat dynamics were shitty to me.

I've enjoyed the Total War series and I'm yet to get Rome: Total War.

Hey, the reckon Warhammer 40k is good.

You've played the Empire Earth series, eh? What are they like?

Reply to BomberBill

Right, HL2 it is then, and maybe some BF2 also, but I'm not sure my rig is really up to it.

I'm very surprised that Quake 4 was released so quietly, no fanfare, no advance demo (as far as I know), and very few reviews about. Strange.

Reply to WingDing

UT2004 rules. It's a game I keep coming back to. Simple "kill 'em all" entertainment for as little or as long as you want.

I've seen the sample for the next one, and it's mind blowing, but it's not due until 2007. :x

I've only just managed to finish UT2004 on the 'adept' level. I used to play the original UT on masterful but this version is amped and its a real challenge for me on the higher level.

There's something endlessly satisfying about the slaughter groove you can get going in the UT games. 04 really plays well as well as looks terrific. 07 should be fantastic!

Reply to BomberBill

Yep. No puzzles, no riddles. Just flat out slaughter. Fanfuckingtastic.
