Hi,
Hoping someone may be able to help with this one... I've just bought HL2 and
have succesfully installed HL2, CS:Source and Steam.
Problem is that no matter which i start i just get a 'Steam Updating' box
appear which moves up to 27% then starts over. After 3 tries it tells me
that Steam is temporarily unavailable. It's done this lots of times over
several days.
Looking on the Steam support site there is a similar topic, which just says
to contact their support staff, but i though i may get a quicker answer
here!

If memory serves you need to delete the .gcf files from the: X:\Program
Files\Steam\SteamApps folder and try again.
I'm not certain though so you might want to wait for one of the techies
here.

1) Try restaring your comp if your connection fails
2) Try the validate commands
HL2
steam://validate 340
CS:S
steam://validate 240
3) if nothing helps try deleting the clientregistry.blob
Note: Could be a problem with bandwidth on the internet when Tour de France
is live (video broadcasts)
