Windows Media Player not playing WMV files properly

For this page:
http://videos.timchuma.com/thetownbikes/index.htm

I had someone trying to view the videos say that Windows Media Player
downloads the codec correctly, but then it doesn't play the video
properly (it just displays fractal patterns.)

I just told them to try with a newer version of the Media Player, but
does anyone else have any idea why it would do this?

Thanks.

Could be their graphics card. Have them try reducing the video
acceleration and see if that works. I used to have the same problem with
Real Player on an old card, until I did that.
