You can probably purchase a car cigarette lighter adapter for the
camcorder, which will have the necessary plug for the camcorder, then
wire each of your alternative power packs for a cigarette lighter
plug.

I'm in the US, where "DC Power Inverters" are easily obtained. I
don't know if that is true in the UK.

These devices plug into the cigarette lighter plug in the car, and
convert the 12V-DC into mains voltage which is provided in a
standard mains plug. So you could just plug your regular charger
into the mains plug of the inverter.

You have to be careful about the available wattage - if you plug a
1000 Watt hair drier into an inverter that can provide 150 Watts,
you can expect problems :)

See this as one example of many:

In this catalog entry, you can see the auto plug on its pigtail, but
you can't quite see the US-style mains plug on the end of the box.

Prices and other specs vary all over the place.

Colin, the subject of the Sony plug has come up before. There appears to be
two different size power plugs. I have yet to figure out what all of the
Sony power supplies do. I initially wanted to be able to charge a spare
battery without having it attached to my camera. Some of the Sony items are
a bit pricey.

The exact URL does not remain, so you will have the search

Thanks Gino that certainly gives me an option while on the move. I'm still
very keen to get my hands on one of these DC plugs so that I may build
alternative battery backs. The entire DCR- TRV range use them among several
others as well so they must be obtainable !

Regards
