I have all my home videos converted to DVD, and was wondering what the
latest and greatest software is, in order to take those clips and
assemble them to create a new DVD. I guess what I really need is
something to let me go through the DVD and select, for example, a 10
minute clip and export it to my PC, then take clip from somewhere
else, etc..and when i'm done, bring it all back together in a
particular order...

Any tips are appreciated!

That can be easily done with TMPGEnc DVD Author, just
use the "add DVD Video" button and load your DVDs. You
will be given the option to save each DVD to your hard drive
as you load them. As you build this new project, you will be
able to put your selected parts together as you see fit. You can
use portions of your clips for still or motion menu backgrounds.

Luck;

Ulead DVD Moviefactory 3 and Cyberlink Power Producer 2 will let you
copy video from a DVD.
I think Ulead Video Studio 8 also does this.

Rip your dvd with dvd shrink or dvd decrypter, then throw them there
vobs up in Womble Video Wizard and have at it!

then throw the resulting mpg up in some dvd authoring software
(anything will do, even the junk that comes with nero/roxio etc)

I think

Am I getting this right? Are we talking about inserting
a DVD in my DVD-ROM, and have the software copy the video
from the DVD to the hard drive? (including decrypting of
the CSS DVDs?)

uhhhh so anyway...

maybe not so simple

I did this and everything played back great from the timeline, but
when I exported to mpeg2 and played back in WMP, I got audio sync
problems and problems with the video slowing down and speeding up.

more info, when I exported out of womble i used "NTSC DVD" template

hmmmm..

I'm thinking Womble doesn't like the .VOB's but if that's the case,
why was it perfect in the timeline?

I don't suppose the problems I'm having are because I'm playing back
on my PC instead of TV (NTSC)

Do I need to frameserve the .VOB's and/or convert them to a legitimate
..mpg before adding to project?
