liz,
Take a look at this web page for your questions;
'My Video Problems'
If you decide you need to contact Mr. Hughes, please post your
questions to him in a format that is more specific, and less like an
AOL chat session.
Best,
Treeman

Hi Liz,
You can't transfer using usb. You need to use firewire, also known as i-link
by Sony or IEEE1394, from the camcorder to the pc. Do not use the USB cable,
this is really for stills only. Have the cam connected and turned on to vcr
position, powered by the mains and not battery.

liz,
The Sony dcr-trv255e can use FireWire / DV / i.Link or USB.
For video transfer, you will need to purchase an i.Link firewire
cable.
The transfer rates are much faster, and you don't hit the file size
limit with USB.
Here's a link for firewire cables,
'RAM means Connectivity' (http://tinyurl.com/aa93s) The cable you need
depends on your computers firewire port, and your cameras i.link port.
Best,
Treeman
