Capture Crashes after 30 seconds of transfer

Sony DV DCR-HC40
Windows Movies Maker version 2.1.4026.0
Windows XP service pack 2.0

My camera, Sony DV DCR-HC40 is connected to my computer via fire wire
cable 1394.
I’m trying to capture a DV tape to my computer with Windows Movies Maker. I
can see my cam and start the capture procedure. But I can capture for about
15 sec then the message error appears.

Error message: Windows Movie Maker: One of the devices being used to
capture video has been disconnected from your computer.
The wizard will now exit.
Please check device connections and try again.
Do you want to save the video that has been captured so far?

Or

Windows Movie Maker: The specified DV device is not responding. Verify that
the device is connected properly and turned on, and then try capturing again.

My camera doesn’t stop to play but it seems that the connection between the
cam and the computer is the problem, the signal is lost or something. I
checked already my cable, I tried another one, but the problem still remains.
Do I need a driver? Did I make something wrong? Do you have a clue where I
can get support?

I am in the same boat.
XP Pro.
ASUS P4C800 Deluxe MOBO. 3.2GHz - 1G ram
RADEON 9800 - Twin 200G SATA RAID 0 (400G)
(this MOBO has the VIA 1394 chip OHCI compat. device)
Windows driver ver: 5.1.2535.0 on IRQ 20
I have tried a patch from (Windows.com)
(WindowsXP-KB885222-x86-ENU.exe )
I have tried a new cable.
I have rolled back drivers to SP1. (and back)
Have the latest BIOS from ASUS.
(the Sony DCR-TRV310) works on other computers. (and its cable)
And it moves data to my new DVR. (Sony RDR-HX900) (Set top box)

Thanks for the link. I have tried everything. I will keep using my
older
computer (2.8G) to capture. I have been capturing with the DVR for the
time being. I have even tried moving the interrupt but it is built into
the motherboard. (still fooling with the BIOS.)
