every time i connect to a cs.s server over my lan, i have to input my
steam account password.
the 'remember password' option is ticked and steam logs in
automatically every day without problem yet connecting to my
standalone server i must type in my steam account password.
i don't need to login to steam when i play on clan servers just the
standalone source server, fully updated with the hldsupdater.
anyone else experiencing this or is there a variable i missed?

Are you using usr/pwd as parameters starting srcds?
An you are using your steam account? (this will close your steamticket on
the authentication servers)

There was a patch a while back for srcds - you don't need the usr/pwd option
anymore
Give it a try :-)

nope. my batch file is something like this:
d:
cd d:\valve\hl server
start /abovenormal d:\valve\hl server\srcds.exe -game cstrike -port
27015
i also copied the default server.cfg that was listed on the steam
forum & altered bot numbers, rates etc to suit me.

no, i'm using the standalone version, no login is neccessary to start
the server but i must login to steam with my client pc when i join the
lan server, even though i'm already logged in to steam automatically
when windows starts. it seems joining my own server expires my client
ticket automatically but if i open my favourite server page and join
an online server there's no problem.

How about this? Connecting Steam automatically uses your WAN IP address
with your password. Connecting to a local server makes it look like your
steam account is using a different IP address?

I had that when logged into Steam and would reset my router which made
me get a new IP. I had to relog into Steam and actually it yelled about
multiple accounts... blah blah blah.

In saying that my firend has a dedicated CS:S server that he connects to
internally and externally and I've never heard him complain about
relogging in.

don't think so. i can go from the lan server to a web server without
having to login.

oddly, it only happens every other day.
when i connect to the server without expiring my ticket, though, i see
an error message in the console - client.dll differs from server.
that definitely wasn't there when i had to keep entering my steam
password.
ran update on the server & exited/restarted steam but neither actually
downloaded/updated anything and everything runs fine once i login [or
thrice to connect first time yesterday].
