Canon may take back sales volume currently given to
the Panasonic dvx100a.
For the past 3 years, Panasonic was the only way to go
for sub $4,000 video cameras, with it's DVX100 line of
cameras. They were the only player in true 24p
camcorders.
Now Canon has awaken from its coma and started to pay
attention.
They took what was great with Panasonic, and built it
into their presently popular chainsaw of a camera,
called the XL1. They stuck with the obvious choice in
naming the new camcorder, the XL2. It has all of the
features of the Panasonic dvx100a, all of the features
of the old canon XL1, and adds native 16x9 ccd's.
My only question is ...why stop there? It would seem
obvious that the public not only wants their new
camera to have all of the current features of the
current king of the hill, but they actually want the
camera in the next higher priced segment for the price
of what they paid for their current camera.
If they had only used a larger ccd of 1/2" or 2/3",
they would have every Panasonic dvx100a owner ready to
trade in for the Canon, as it stand now, you will have
members on either side of the fence.
