Special Capture

Is there a capture program that can start and stop using an automatic timer
(like a VCR)? And would also like time laps and even motion detection (but I
know that's asking for too much).

I'm using Windows XP and would like the capture program for a firewire camera
input as well as analog (rtx100). Most time laps I tried (including Virtual Dub)
didn't work at low frame rates on the firewire input.

Thanks for any help.

This is a common application in the security field. Do a
Google search for security camera software.

I know that's asking for too much).

I'm using Windows XP and would like the capture program for a firewire
camera

Hi- try
http://www.crime-catcher.com/index.html

However, you may well find that using the simple screen capture program at
http://www.hyperionics.com/index.asp?AfID=13170 is just as effective at
saving the screen as sequential images at times intervals. This program can
be set to record the desktop ie the camera scene only when there is a change
in the screen's pixels! This is equivalent to 'motion detection'.

There is no need to record from the camera using a recording program if
capturing the screen as sequential images gives the same results.

I wish there was a digital stills camera that could do the same thing as
this would be much better than using a video camera with all the inherent
interlacing problems associated with that recording method.

Yours faithfully,

I think uviewit can do this. I am using my DV cam to record
video/sound when there is motion detected in my room. It also does
time-lapse every 10 minutes.
