Hi, I have a minidv dcr-pc7 digital video camera, and a dell inspiron
with firewire with windows xp profesional.

The problem is that the dell doesnt recongnice the video camera. I
dont know wich driver do I have to download to make the dell recognize
the camera. A firewire driver? a camera driver?. I only found a new
usb camera driver for the dcr-pc7 but I think that is only usb not
firewire.

I try to add a new camera in camera option in control panel of windows
xp, but with which driver or other option?

Thanks for your help

Andrei

No special drivers needed, that's the advantage of firewire over usb. It
truly is "plug and play". I've had to diagnose a few of the problem you
mentionned (I'm up to 6 so far), and all of them were traced to a bad
firewire chip, so a simple card swapp and all was better. Of course, on
a laptop nothing is ever so simple as a card swapp, but maybe you could
try a PCMCIA firewire adapter on it and if it works, send the laptop
back to Dell.

Try another firewire cable. They are often defective or just go bad.
