I have three different XP Pro machines running at thre different locations, one with a statip IP and then two with DNS redirecting. Any time that I try to log into any one of the computers outside of the LAN, via a router I get one of two errors. The 1st error being "The specified remote computer could not be found. Verify that you have typed the correct computer name or IP address, and then try connecting again." That is using the computer name. If I use the ip address of the computer on the LAN side of the network I get, "The client could not connect to the remote computer."

What gets me is that I have enabled on the router at each location. Virtual Server to point to the correct computer. Plus I have opened up the 3389 port for TCP, plus 1494 TCP. RDC works fine when I am on the lan and use the static IP adress that is on the WAN side for connecting, but once I leave the premises, I can not get in.

If you could please shine some light on my situation I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

Matthew

Testing from the LAN side isn't accurate.

If you want a good test, use a machine with a dial-up modem and dial out,
and attempt connecting with the WAN IP address of the router.

I don't know why you are opening port 1494--3389, TCP is all that is needed
for RD.

are there any software firewalls on the target host PC's--these need to be
opened on port 3389, TCP as well.
