I'm thinking about buying one of these cards, but there's one question that I
have and hopefully someone who actually owns one of these cards can help me
out.
Will the North American version of this card actually support both NTSC and
PAL signals? I have an older camcorder and a stack of tapes that I brought
from Europe and I'd like to transfer them onto my PC. I bought a cheap
video capture card a while ago; and even though you could select NTSC or PAL
from the menu, it wouldn't actually accept a PAL signal.
I've read conflicting things on different web sites about the WINTV and even
Hauppauge tech support hasn't given me a clear answer on this one. So can
somebody who actually has the North American version of this card try this
quick and simple test for me:
1. plug your VCR into the composite video input (not into the S-video or RF
cable/antenna input) put in a tape, and press play
2. bring up the picture on the screen using the default menu settings
3. make sure the picture looks nice and clean and colorful 4. now go into the settings menu and change the signal type from NTSC to PAL
5. tell me what happens to the picture on the screen
