I have several small clips (a few minutes each) that I would like to put on
a DVD, but I would like them to be separated as distinct tracks. I don't
want to make 1 track with several chapters; I'd rather go with several
tracks, even if they only have 1 chapter each. I have been trying the
evaluation version of DVD Lab, and for each clip, I have created a new
movie. I then created the menus, etc. but the problem is: DVD Lab didn't
create many vob files out of these; it created one vob file for a few clips,
another one for a few others, etc. These vob files were all 976 600 kb in
size, and were named VTS_01_1, VTS_01_2, etc. like they were all on the same
track. I'd like to have one vob file for each clip and therefore have them
named VTS_01_1, VTS_02_1, etc. as to really separate them. How can I do
this in DVD Lab? Thanks!

Don't know; but if you download the 30 day evaluation of
TMPGEnc DVD Author from www.pegasys-inc.com it's
very easy. After you have added the clip or clips you want to
the first track, just click on the blue "Add new track..." text.
This will give you a track 2, into which you add whatever clip
you want. Keep doing that until you have all the tracks you
want.

Why do you want to do that? Once you have created it as different
movies in DVD Lab it won't matter how it is layed out on the disc.

Hmmm...the first track had 4 of my clips in it, and I tried playing the DVD
in PowerDVD, and pressing the "next track" button to skip to the next one
but it doesn't work.

I know...I have also tried TMPGEnc DVD Author, and it's very easy and almost
foolproof. Worked great the first time; I only wanted to try DVD Lab as a
more professional tool and to be able to really do my DVD the way I wanted
to instead of having it done 'automatically' (placing the buttons where I
anted to, etc.). But the way it is right now, I might just go back to
TMPGEnc DVD Author: it's not that bad a program either, I'd even say it's
the best one when it comes to combining ease of use, and giving good
results. It is lacking a few 'advanced' features (like having animated
menus where you can play a part of a scene, etc.), but for most people, it's
a very good program.

You can place butons anywhere, any size, and also do animated menus in
TMPGEnc DVD author.
Sounds like you haven't yet explored it entirely.

Interesting site, but you can do even more with the menus.
You are not restricted to any of the supplied artwork, just
click on anything, a button, a thumbnail, a background and
it will bring up a selection box so that you can pick a different
image/clip ( in some cases you may need to click on a "Open
file..." button) If the element is a video clip, like the default
thumbnails, the selection box will let you find any frame in the
clip to use ( or for motion menus; the starting frame for the
loop ). If you want to use a frame from a different clip then
click on the "Open file..." button.
You can make your own artwork or capture/scan an image
to use. "Wallpaper" from movie/TV Show sites can make
great menu backgrounds.
If you make your own "theme", you will be able to edit it in
a number of ways. You can position elements anywhere you
want, each time you use the menu if that's wanted.
One trick I use is to select a text format (no thumbnails)
for a new menu. Then make a "background" image that
includes my selection items/buttons. I can then just use
non-printing characters in large font sizes to create a
selection area and place it over the items/buttons in my
background image. You can also add a period at one
end so that it will light-up when you "mouse over" the
selection area.

It sounds like there is a terminology problem here. There aren't such
entities as "tracks" on a DVD. Your description sounds like "chapters" or
maybe you mean "titles". Each movie is its own title irrespective of the
VOB files they are bundled into.

OK. Most players (that I've seen) don't have short cut buttons on the
remote for the next title, you'd have to go to the setup menu and choose
the title.
However, it's still a title even if it's bundled in with other titles in a
VOB file.
