Just brought battlefield Vietnam and it is very jerky on my system, and one else had similar problems? I play BF1942 all the time and that runs fine, do you reckon I need more RAM or a better graphics card?
Im using 2Mbit ADSL, so I dont think its my connection that is the problem.
I know, with the ammount of money I have spent on my computer in the last 6weeks I could have got all 3 consols! Now I have to get a new graphics cards to make that investment worth it. This sucks!
P.S. I tried it at 1024*768 on low quality settings and its runs fine... I dont get it. Ah well cant complain, personnally i think it looks better with low settings @1024*768 than it did with high settings @ 800*600.
I read somwhere that BF and onboard sound (ac97) dont mix well, it could help to get a pci soundcard, or the hog that BF is, it could need more horsepower
i have the game myself with the following system specs:
2000+ athlon
NF7-S rev2
512mb/ram
*TI4200
its the video card man. even at the LOWEST settings, i get every symptom of the video card being the bottleneck.. the GF4TI is just not able to handle the massive geometry/culling/layers of textures the game requires..
this game is the reason im upgrading to a 9500pro

I would suggest lowering your resolution to something more reasonable like 800x600. It'll be easier on your system and your eyes.
dude, 800x600 is SOOO 1998. you CANT play BF Veitnam at that resolultion because the gameplay is totally based on stealth and snipering... you wontbe able to see those little bursts of light that happen when people are shooting from 400+ feet away... the sniper rifles usually are effective at a kilometre almost in distance. just not possible at a resolution like that...
its hard enough to see people hiding in bushes 400 feet away when your at 1024x768 with medium texture detail and no AntiAliasing =(

Im seriously buying a 9800pro so I can play BF how it was meant to be played. Its only about £150 for it, and I could pro get it up to XT speeds on watercooling.
...but its just another computer part that I cant afford.
It runs fine on my P4 2.53 with a Radeon 9700Pro and 1GB of RAM. I run the game at 1600 x 1200 at max detail with no AA or AF. The only time I have a problem is when the server I'm on starts to choke or if my connection slows down.

I dunno, I was thinking it could be a lack of RAM that was slowing me down. My RAM is running at 250MHz (1000Mhz, DDR, Dual Channel) but there is only 512Mb of it and I think Veitnam is a bit of a RAM hog.
Ah well I ordered the new card today, so hopefully it will run pretty sweet now.
What card did you order? My computer, as I mentioned before, runs it at 1024*768 with low settings. My proc is a 2 ghz of the old core, and I have SDRAM, not DDR like you. My video card is a 9600 pro, it is not holding me back; so I don't see what is making your computer jerky, your RAM is probably 3X as fast as mine and your processor is probably 1/4 faster than mine.

That'll be enough L1 cache for me too...
kind of disapointing, but i guess its expected considering how the original BF1942 was when it was first released.. some of the annoyances of the game engine have even been carried over from BF1942 TO Vietnam!

Well it seems I've developed a problem... was wondering if anyone else encountered it.
Everytime the game goes to load a new map, I get booted back to the desktop. This wasn't happening before, it just started within the last couple of days. I was using Cat 4.2 then upgraded to 4.4 to see if the problem would go away. No dice. Any suggestions?

I've got a P4 2.53 with 1GB of RAM, Radeon 9700Pro and a Sound Blaster Audigy 2. The game worked fine when I first installed it, this started about 2 or 3 weeks after I installed it. Not sure what's going on, but it's really starting to annoy me. I can't stay in the game when a new map loads. No errors or warnings, just BAM!, back to desktop.

Seriously!!! I thought the game was old and sucky when I tried the demo, because the graphics were so sh*tty. I later learn it was my GF4 4400, because when I played the demo with my 9800 P it took on new meaning and I bought the game right away.
