Would like some advice on what I need to purchase to network three different computers together and then access the internet via cable modem? I have a network card on one of them so far. But i need to know if I need a router and what kind of cable modem is best to use to share files between computers?

thanks

I think what you need is your regular cable modem and a descent router. The modem connects to the router, which provides internet access to all the computers. I don't have cable, but a dsl modem connected to a Linksys BESFR41 router. It has 4 port internal 10/100 switch. It works very descent and the internal switch works faster than a D-Link switch I bought a while ago.

If your taking about your lan file sharing, it should work just fine. For Kazaa and other P2P applications, it should work also. As for games you can use DMZ and port forwarding, only if you need to host a game.

Okay so I've got one comp. with a nic card already, not the usb. And i've got another comp. with no network card. So to be able to connect these two comp to share files and info and access one cable internet, Do I need a router (10/100 4 port pci) and another nic card for the comp that doesn't have one. And how about the belkin 4 port ethernet router??

one router (the Belkin would be fine) and one NIC will do it.
