Since many DVD recorders share some of the features of a PC I was wondering
if any DVD recorders allow for extra storage onto an external Hard Drive?
I use my PC for editing my home videos & often just plug in an external
drive to the USB2 port.

Thanks in advance

i asked a retailer if the drive cab ne upgraded, and he said no
That tells me that the drive settings (CHS) etc are in the firmware of the
recorder. It may be ok to chnage the drive for the exact model, but maybe
thats about it

You asked the retailer? that's a big joke, since when did a retailer
actually know anything technical about a product they sell? They always make
things up. we all know that. LOL
Anyway, most PVR's will autodetect the size of the HD when replaced and auto
run a format etc..
I would guess it would work up to the limit of the bios they are using, for
instance I wouldn't try replacing it with a really big drive like 200gb, but
replacing an 80gb with a 120 gb might work. 160gb might even be too big.
There is a limit in the OS used, same as most older PC's.

You can upgrade the HDD in the Pioneer 810, but cannot use an external
HDD.

If you mean desktop DVD recorders, there are models with harddrive,
and without it. The ones with harddrive are much mor expensive -but
then also much more useful.
