I have a Sony DCR-TRV840 Digital 8 camcorder and an Apple G4 iMac (15", 800
MHz, MacOSX 10.2.8, Superdrive). I want to purchase a Sony GV-D800 Digital 8
deck and transfer from camcorder to deck via Firewire, but I can't afford it
right now. Since I have the iMac, I want to use it in place of the D8 deck.

If I transfer a D8 movie from the camcorder to the iMac via Firewire, and then
transfer this same movie from the iMac hard drive back to a different tape in
the camcorder, will the second tape be a perfect copy of the first tape? Would
there be any loss, dropouts, or degradations?

Thank you.

No, it can be considered as 1:1 copy.
