i hate american bastards... russia never achieved communism it was a goal... we had socialism (the apparent opposite of capitalism) where everything belongs to the government and everybody gets what they need... communism is an ideal... where everybody gets what the WANT... as in everyone drives the best cars... eats the best food... drinks the best wines... etc... i like my vodka... but i think that more english people and people from the states drink it than russians...

U commie sob.
With that out of the way you are right Russia never reached true communism but also in the same token America or any other country for that matter is not a true democracy either. Why? do u ask well because theory and practice are two different things. You commies tried to become true commies and failed miserable because your workers are lazy and your government is corrupt. Here is another bit of info for u the average Russian male drinks five bottles of vodka a week. This is more than any other country.
Have fun eating your stale bread and vodka u commie bastard

I can't believe you would write something like that on an international forum. There are at least 10 Russians on THG. What you wrote was extremely tasteless...
BTW, Russian bread is the best bread I've ever eaten. Their vodka is the best vodka in the world as well. Why don't you actually try criticizing something that isn't as good.

“Build your own you will love it more”
Actually I have know many Russians and they all say the same thing their country is a big sh!t hole and they would give their left nut to live in the US.
Now Commie dude killall was claiming that Russians don’t drink that much but it is true that they drink more than anyone else in the world.
The Russian Health Ministry estimates consumption in 1996 was 18 liters of pure alcohol per adult. That is pure alcohol, which is the rough equivalent of 38 liters of 100-proof vodka per person a year.
40 percent of the Russian adult male population was alcoholic,
From: http://cnn.org/SPECIALS/2000/russi [...] .Politics/
In old Russia vodka was often sold by pails (about 10 liters). Together with bread it became one of the main Russian food products .
The average male expectancy of life in Russia declined from 65 years in 1986 to 57.5 years in 1994.
A few years ago, Russians surpassed the French to become officially the world's heaviest drinkers.
From : http://www.wayan.net/exp/rus_exp/vodka.htm
Healthy life expectancy is a fair 66.4 for female babies but just 56.1 years for males. This is one of the widest sex gaps in the world. The most common explanation is the high incidence of male alcohol abuse, which led to high rates of accidents, violence and cardiovascular disease. From 1987 to 1994, the risk of premature death increased by 70% for Russian males
http://www.who.int/inf-pr-2000/en/pr2000-life.html
another happy thought about Russia
MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- The operating room is silent, the doctor’s eyes serious and focused. The young woman lies on the table, unconscious, her legs bent at the knee. The procedure is over in no more than 10 minutes. The patient is wheeled from the room and another woman is wheeled in.
In the Soviet Union, this was virtually the only family-planning method women had, other than abstinence: abortion.
Ten years ago, nearly four million abortions were performed per year, 2.2 abortions for every live birth.
Ironically, abortion is widely practiced, even as Russia is experiencing a severe population crisis. The country’s death rate is now higher than the birth rate. Ten years ago, there were 13.5 newborns per thousand population. Today, there are just 8.5. (that’s ok who wants more commies anyway)
From: http://europe.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/e [...] .abortion/
You are right Russia seems like a nice happy warm fuzzy place to live let’s all move their right NOW!!!!

“Build your own you will love it more”
OMG, now that's a nice load of BS. First of all, if u ask people who actually lived in Russia during communistic rule and who actually know what they are talking about, it was by far not the worst life. Especially with Michael Gorbachev the communism wasn't what we were after. Until 1991 it was almost socialistic society. What makes u say that russian people are lazy? huh? give me proof of that. Right now of course it is impossible to live there since although they have actually achieved something along the lines of capitalism. They got EXTREMELY RICH businessmen which are not too rare. Also they have extremely poor people who almost eat out of trash cans simply because they got no money to even pay for a weeks worth of food. These poor souls are unfortunately a majority. How about u try living there?
Other side-effect of democracy is huge crime rate which comes because of complete freedom of action and speech. While here in North America we're used to it and people have control over themselves, back in former U.S.S.R they have never had so much freedom on their hand (of course because of communism).
So before u judge, read books and not cnn reports.
Dhlucke you are correct
Myself coming from Ukraine, we got THE best bread in the world, I still remember the taste (even after living 8 years in Canada).
"He who laughs last doesn't get the joke"
hmmm, I'm Ukranian, it's pretty much like Russian but worse, now I'm in US and there are many reasons why it is better here, for one thing US has a lot of export while Russian almost doesn't have it, another thing is that when you finish High School in US you can go anywhere in the world! (if you are a citizen) IT IS VERY HARD to get to US from Russian, they just won't let you go. I like it here, and all those people that say it is better in Russian are either VERY RICH , VERY STUPID or VERY JELOUS, it's hard at first but then you get used to it. People here are nicier I'd say. there is one product that SUX IN US AND ROX IN RUSSIAN AND IT IS SOUSAGES!!! IN US THEY ARE PURE CHEMICALS! otherwise I'd say it is better in US..now, nobody knows what's gonna happen next.
yeah, bread is better in Ukraine, BUT New York, Brooklyn is like second MOSCOW and they make exactly the same bread around here.
Ok lazy might have been the wrong word but unmotivated is defiantly true. If you went to work every day knowing that you were always going to make the amount of money and everyone else was making the same money would you work very hard. If it didn’t matter if you were a brain surgeon or a trash collector you still make jack [-peep-] and lived in sub first world conditions would work every hard? The answer is no you would get drunk at work and work as little as possible because they can’t even fire you. That is main reason communism failed and will always failed. It is human nature to need self-interested motivation. Meaning that you need to know that your hard work will pay off. The only times communism did work is when they had a huge amount of national pride which quickly faded away.
All the ex-commies I know the only good thing they had to say about it was that school was free. But they again you had to pass tons of tests to get into school and after you graduated yes you guaranteed a job but for the same money as the street sweeper who can’t read.
So if you like the thought that what you in life it does not matter you will still end up just like everyone else and there is no way to better your self then yes communism is great.
Now that communism has failed in the Russia the crime rates are horrible. The mob controls everything from the power and water to the food and for Russians more importantly the vodka. So I would not go off on how Russia is a nice happy crime free place.
And yes I am sure bread tasted like the best read in the world but that is probably because you were so hungry that when they gave your loaf of bread for the week’s rations you about to starve to death.
mbaha
“Build your own you will love it more”
Actually a version of communism (red capitalism) is working just fine right now in China. I could see how you could miss that fact though since no one really notices those scant nomadic clans of people. To say it failed is BS. It failed in russia and a lot of it had to do with government corruption. The system itself was ok until the communists started taking everything for themselves. Also the communist party in russia was very small, not many people actually in the party. China is a different story though, even though it still seems to be an elitest group. But just as government corruption ruined their country it will ruin ours as well. It doesn't really matter what system you buy into, they'll nearly all work fine, the greed of human nature will eventually fuk it all up. Communism didn't fail. People failed.
My Jesus is whiter than your Jesus.
First of all, lose the drinking scenarios. Right now it's horrible down there, but people are desperate and it wasn't like that under communism.
See, u didn't live there, so I knew u wouldn't know. People were satisfied with their way of life under the communistic rule. And there was no sub-first world conditions before 1991. Of course people always want to stand out for one reason or another, of course that was prohibited. Of course it bites when u get a phd and u get the same amount of money as the average high school graduate. But people were not aware of other life on the west or anywhere else, so we thought they were living the best life (and we were taught that in schools all the time).
True school was free, but the quality of education was so high, that no other country could compare, maybe except Japan and China.
I am not going to give u cons and pros of communism, there are plenty of essays and manuscripts which u can read.
Mob control and huge crime rate are the by-product of Democracy which when uncontrolled turns basically into Anarchy and Despotism...
Finally the comment about the bread was uncalled for and rude. I guess u weren't taught well... and for your information people were never hungry under the communist rule.
P.S A freshly baked Ukrainian loaf bread and Salt were the main welcoming gifts and always showed and were regarded with great respect. But I guess u wouldn't know.
"He who laughs last doesn't get the joke"
I AM VERY AGREE WITH YOU! I am Russian though.
"But people were not aware of other life on the west or anywhere else, so we thought they were living the best life (and we were taught that in schools all the time). "
think about that for awhile.
mbaha
“Build your own you will love it more”
...Thought about that for a while. Don't see the reason to think though. Again I'll repeat myself, if u ask any russian about the pre 1991 era, they will not complain about the life they carried on. There was nothing particular to complain about. Sure most people weren't allowed outside the country, but why would u want to with U.S.S.R being the largest country in the world, plenty to explore.
"He who laughs last doesn't get the joke"
First I do have to say that I think you are the biggest jerk I've ever seen on this forum. You're spitting out statistics that are legit, but you are speaking based on stereotypes instead of anything YOU actually know about.
As an american I think communism is stupid. I can't stand any socialism. After travelling to russia I can further testify that communism didn't work. It had some very good ideas, but as a whole it couldn't sustain itself.
As far as Russia is concerned though the people are great, the culture is rich, the land is beautiful and it is one of my favorite places in the world. I suppose a guy like you who goes around calling people commie sob's wouldn't understand that though. Did you even know that during the soviet times not all people were communists. Only those who chose to do so joined the party. What do you actually know about communism? You act as if the year is still 1960. Trully paranoid aren't you.
Let me fill you in about russian health care while I'm at it. Not that I'm an expert on the emerergency room or anything, but unlike our expensive system you can buy medication over there without a prescription in most cases for 1/100'th cost over here. I got really sick over there from the water so I needed some Immodium. It cost 50 cents for a package with 20 caplets even though it was made over here where it sells for god knows what.
As far as the alcoholism is concerend, you should see what these people are having to live through right now due to the economical downturn after the fall of the USSR. It doesn't matter how wealthy you were before since they chopped off all the zeros. But that doesn't mean that these people are worse off than us. Considering how educated these people are I wouldn't worry too much about the russians. Worry about people like you who act like we still in the cold war. It's people like you who make this world dangerous. How egocentrical can you get?
Would I rather live in the USA? Yes I would. But I wouldn't hesitate to live over there. Yes, the water isn't as good and it's poor, but beyond that I don't have anything but good things to say about Russia. The people are just as friendly as Americans, they are intelligent, there is so much to see over there, and all of Europe is at your fingertips.
So while you're sitting in your nice comfortable home in Arkansas afraid to go out and understand anything about Russia I'll be over there having a great time laughing at morons like you who are afraid of everything that they don't understand.
"The commies are coming the commies are coming"
So sad, truly. Go read a damn book before you comment on anything I've written. Yes, Russia is poor, yes communism didn't work, yes the people are suffering, but in the long run that country is in good shape. There are millions of Russians in the USA, there are millions in Israel, they are everywhere and don't think that they won't return there one day. During communist times the people were satisfied with their lives. Once it fell everything went to [-peep-]. But it will get better. The people are so damn smart that I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I should also note that no matter how poor my friends and family are over there they are still happy. There was nobody over there who sat around bitching about Russia. I guess they all left already.
As far as the population drop, this is due to WWII. Go look at a population pyramid and you'll see how the population decimation during the war and Stalin times has caught up to the country. Combined with the fall of communism it's gonna be a while before they recover.
I doubt you have any Russian friends as you call them. There is no way a Russian would associate himself with you. Just as if you wouldn't associate yourself to someone who hates the USA. You have way too closed a mind....open your damn eyes and realize the big picture. Money isn't everything, so where does that leave Russia? It leaves them with bad water and some hard times. Doesn't mean they aren't happy....

Ya socialized health care works really well like how all the good Canadian doctors want to come to the US where they can make more than the mail man. And the reason that those cheap drugs are even available in the first place is that some American company came up with it then the commies copied it.

mbaha you posted many good points, but you ruined it by badmouthing everyone. You're right in many cases. I very much dispute that no one would complain about the life they lead pre '91 whomever said that. That is bogus. You cannot say that of any place on the planet. Also, don't get so caught up in thinking China works. That's just not true. China isn't quite the third world country it used to be, but it's not exactly a happy land of smiling dancing little elves. In fact I'd go out on a limb and say China sucks.
I like TFC.
Ok now, if you're a russian and/or lived during pre-91 era in Soviet Union, do provide the arguments, because I'd be interested to hear your point of view. However if you're not then please don't try to state something you don't know and make a fool of yourself.
P.S. Mbaha, those last 2 posts just proved that my remarks were ignored, so I'll simply ignore any other comments from u.

Nice to know we share this area with a bunch of uneducated bigots. That goes for both sides in this ludicrous banter.
For the record, if you want to view things from a society based ideal. Communism is (in theory) one of the ideal forms of government. Everyone has their job, everyone does their job, everyone is treated equally, the masses work so that the masses may endure. Of course true communism can never be achieved due to little human vices like greed. The only true communist society we have seen in action is the Smurfs. No insult intended to anyone, but think about it. They were all unique in their responsibilities, and as long as everyone did what they needed to do, the village ran smoothly. Again, due to human nature it will never be achieved. Much like any fantasy some people have regarding a global government will never reach fruition until we manage to get over ourselves. Greed, addiction to power, corruption etc... And though living conditions may be superior in the USA (I am not american, nor am I from central/eastern europe so I could care a less about this cold war one upsmanship) realise that little things like education levels were far superior in the USSR for those lucky enough to receive it. There is always points to be made on both sides, data can be broken down to say anything you want (just ask CNN, great network up until dessert storm), so why don't we take this wonderful opportunity to acctually communicate on our global village (that was the intention of the internet) instead of behaving like a bunch of uneducated, red-necked, algae feeding bottom dwellers.
Thankyou for your time.
And if anyone cares, yes I live in a multicultural society. And yes I have friends that are Americans, Russians, Croatains, Slovenians, Serbians, Ukranians, Polish, Chinese, etc... And strangely I find their culture and history very interesting. Afterall those who forget history tend to repeat it. Remember that the next time one of us wants to spout off like a dumb ass...
