Dell has announced a new 600+MHz Axiom and the review
says it has Pocket PC 2003 "SECOND EDITION". I can't
find anything on the MS site about this second Edition.
I bought a new iPaq less than a month ago and want to get
the second edition. Does any know?

Hi Gary,
Pocket PC 2003 SE it's the new version of the Pocket PC platform. Is
also known as Windows Mobile 2003 Sencond Edition, and it's avaliable to
OEMs. Thus, all we can do it's wait until HP or other OEMs to develop some
ROM update for it's existing devices, like iPaqs.
Smartphones will have it's Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition soon, too.

Second edition is a step toward merging the pocket pc pda version with
the wince products and the smartphone products. The main visible change
for the user is the ability to rotate the screen to horizontal. There is
some ability to support legacy apps by adding a scroll bar but most
products will have to be changed to support this new mode. The change in
SE is to support different resolution screens upto 640x480 but of course
the hardware would have to be different to do this. You can expect some
phone style apps to support 240x240 which is being encouraged by
Microsoft as a compatible format that doesn't care about screen orientaiton.
The second change is to provide button access for the today screen
applications and to provide more ability for third party apps to appear
on the today screen. This too, needs new apps before you will see much
difference.
There are a few more changes to support .net but again this is not user
visible.
