cannot access my files

i was working on setting permissions for my win 2000 pro, I was going to have my pc put onto a network, and while changing permissions my computer stopped reckognizing the files as being owned by me, stopped running properly, i reset it told me i was missing i file, i tried to repair using my win install disk but that did not work, i have reinstalled windows overtop of it (2000 pro) and i cannot access any of the files on it still. it tells me access denied is there anything i can do to get access to my files ???????

oh and i havce tried taking ownership of the files. that did not work.

What did it tell you when you took ownership?

Have you ran a chkdsk/scandisk to see if the hard drive is ok?

Taking ownership will work, unless you have encrypted the files using the
Encrypting File System feature. If you've used EFS and haven't preserved
the keys from the previous install of the OS, you may be out of luck--I'd
recommend posting in a different group if that fits your situation.
