The price of the 23" LCD screen are getting lower, $1700 for HP at
Costco.com. $1860 for Sony's at newegg.com and of course, the highest priced
Apple at $2000. They possibly use the same Philips core. The price is still
quite high, but my 21" CRT monitor is dying. Are these LCD screen at the
prime time yet? If my current monitor can live for a year or so, should I
wait?

Of course you should. Unless you feel LCD prices have bottomed out.

A 21" CRT monitor is probably about the same size as a 19" LCD, which
are way cheaper than that. Something to do with the way the panels are
measured, but the viewable size of a 19" LCD is much bigger than that of
a 19" CRT.

possibly right in terms of physical size but a 23" LCD has 1920x1600 pixels.
BTW, I got the price wrong for the HP's, it's $1780 after the $100 rebate.
Actually the Sony price is better, shipping cost is low and no tax for me.
Price isn't the factor but how is today's picture quality for LCDs?
