So--what's this mean. I'm not sure. Have you tested that the machine you
are trying to dial into is, in fact, set to answer the phone?

One easy way to test this is to dial the phone number from any handy phone,
and see whether it answers.

If you have set up an Incoming Connection on the host machine, double check
to see that the modem is still listed as an incoming device. If not,
recheck it, restart the host machine, and re-test by looking again at the
connection or by dialling it. If you cannot get the modem to stay checked,
you need a new driver for that modem for XP.
