If this TDK USB Capture Box has a hardware MPEG Encoder
Chip then, if I were you, I'd use the following settings:
Half D1 resolution; 352x480
VBR with Bitrate ~6.0 Mbps (or CQ ~98%)
15 frames/GOP I/P distance =3 (IBBP)
Audio: Sample Rate 48k MPEG or AC3 2 channel
at 192 to 256 Bitrate.
Or the PAL equivalent to the above.
VideoReDo is a great little low cost "editor" for that
purpose. It is very fast and maintains or even fixes "lip
sync", by the way it handles the PTS and GOP data.
www.VideoReDo.com Don't judge it by the colors
they used, or its simple interface; it's a very powerful
tool.

Try WinDVD or another capture software that will work
with your capture box. The TDK site was not much help,
and provides little if any useful information. That "Showbiz"
software is to be avoided.
If you can let me know what the manufacturer and part
numbers of the major chips in your box are, it may be that
I can find a much better driver. Check out the user comments
on your capture box at www.videohelp.com they sometimes
mention alternate software that improves the capture
performance.
