For PPTP VPN you need to both open TCP Port 1723 and allow GRE Protocol 47 traffic. Some firewalls
call that "PPTP Pass Through" or "VPN Pass Through" or automagically enable that when TCP Port 1723
is opened.

For Remote Desktop you need to open TCP Port 3389.

Note that if you use Remote Desktop through a VPN tunnel then you do not need to open TCP Port 3389.
