When connecting to a computer running XP Pro while another person in logged in under another user name than you, the internet connection is usually lost. What to do about it? In a scheme:
1. user A logs in, uses the internet with DSL connection
2. user B logs in remotely, usr profile B has the same default DSL connection
what should happen:
3a. user A in logged off automatically, user B has a remote desktop connection
what happens:
3b. the internet connection is lost and both users are logged off.

If the connection is one which requires credentials to be exchanged in order
to establish the Internet connection, be sure to save those credentials for
"all users" rather than for any individual user of the machine.
I'm not certain this will solve your problem, but it is worth checking.
