I'm looking to purchase a mini DV camcorder for relatively casual use
-- kids soccer games, holidays, etc... A local electronics store has
an outstanding price on both the JVC GR-D33 and GR-D72. But I've read
in Consumer Reports that the JVC Mini DVs are the least reliable of
those they tested.

Anyone have any expereince JVC mini DV units? Others I'd consider
(but would cost more $$$) are the Canons ZR80/85/90 or the Sony HC30.

Suggestions on reliability or my alternate picks?

Thanks in Advance.

I had no problem until recently. The camera has only a few house on it, and a
message popped up during shooting that I have to clean the heads. Now I have
to find a headcleaner somewhere. My old minicam never had to have the heads
cleaned. Maybe using sony tapes had something to do with it? Other than that,
it seems to work fine.

I use Sony tapes exclusively in my Elura DV. No problems at all.

Same here so far. The JVC might just have a built in timer for hed
cleaning, check the manual for a way to disable it.
